Where’s Labrador?

Despite their name, Labrador Retrievers didn’t actually originate in the Labrador region of Canada. Their roots lie in Newfoundland, where their ancestors, the St. John’s Water Dog, were prized for their water-loving nature and retrieving skills.

So, why the “Labrador” moniker?

The name likely stems from the fact that many of these dogs were brought to England by fishermen from the Labrador region.
